Dual Diagnosis Treatment: Chemical Dependency Rehab and Treatment Scholarships

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

Dual diagnosis tratment aims to treat individuals who are suffering from both chemical dependency and mental illness or another disorder. Dual diagnosis treatment utilizes both psychiatric methods and medical methods to create the most successful results. It is important to simultaneously treat the chemical dependency (drug addiction or alcoholism) and the mental illness so that the recovering individual has higher chances of achieving sobriety that lasts. In some cases the chemical dependency resulted from the mental illness or vice versa. In most cases it is hard to tell which came first, but what matters is that both are treated. If only one area is treated then what usually happens is upon completing the treatment program the individuals’ untreated issues will cause them to relapse in the area they had attempted to resolve.

Chemical Dependency Rehab

Chemical dependency rehab usually includes a combination of treatments and programs. Overcoming chemical dependency can be extremely difficult, so most chemically dependent individuals will go through a detoxification process initially. The detoxification process cleanses an individuals body of all of the harmful chemicals and toxins. This allows them to begin treating their body and mind without the presence of chemicals and toxins. After detoxifying the recovering individuals will usually participate in some sort of counseling or therapy program, along with other therapeutic activities such as yoga, meditation, exercise, etc.

Treatment Scholarships

Treating drug addiction and/or alcoholism can be a very expensive process. In some cases, the expenses are unaffordable and this deters an alcoholic or a drug addict from getting the help they need and deserve. Dual diagnosis treatment can often be obtained through a treatment scholarship. Many centers offer treatment scholarships, which are awarded to individuals who may be unable to afford the treatment they need. They are need-based and depend on the specificities of an individual.
